AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison after he was convicted of forcing his way into a home and then fatally shooting a man in a bed because he was jealous of the victim’s girlfriend.

Gerald Wilson, 30, will be eligible for parole after serving 18 years for the slaying of Douglas Waters in 2024, according to Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich.

“I want to extend my sincerest condolences to Douglas Waters’ family and loved ones as they continue to grieve this loss,” Kolkovich said in a statement. “I also want to thank the witnesses that came forward and made it possible to bring this case to justice.”
