NYPD officers exchanged shots with a pair of armed robbers in Mount Vernon during an early morning pursuit Friday, police said.
No one was hit by the gunfire during the 5:45 a.m. firefight on Pearl St. near W. 1st St. in Mount Vernon, about two blocks from the Bronx border .
The officers, members of an NYPD Bronx Auto Larceny unit , were on their way back to their base when they were alerted by Mount Vernon police about a recent armed robbery at a gas station.
As they continued on, the officers spotted two men who fit the description of the suspects. The cops tried to stop the pair, but they ran off toward Pearl St.
As cops chased them on foot, one of the men pulled a gun and fired off about four shots in their direction.
One of the pursuing cops fired back, officials said. It w
