The Federal Trade Commission is sending more than $6.7 million to people who fell for a deceptive online job listing.
The FTC says the gig working company “Arise Virtual Solutions” targeted people looking for work-from-home side hustles and promised pay of up to $18 an hour.
In reality, the FTC says, the jobs paid far less.
In a complaint last year, the agency accused the company of violating federal laws related to job listings.
As part of a settlement, the company is required to pay nearly $7 million to reimburse gig workers.
The FTC is sending checks to nearly 100,000 people.
Arise is also prohibited from making any claims about pay in its job listings.
