Dove hunting is a tradition for many as friends and family get together for days of wingshooting along with lunches afield or fried doves in the evenings, but hunts can be difficult to find. Not everyone has land to plant a field for doves and planting can be expensive.

Fortunately, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks plants dove fields at some of its wildlife management areas. The fields are planted in a number of crops including sorghum, millet and sunflowers.

The hunts are free, but hunters must have a valid hunting license as well as a valid WMA user permit.
