ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A suspect charged in the death of South Carolina State Trooper Dennis Ricks has been given a $250,000 bond after the charge against him was upgraded hours earlier.

Anthony Aydlette, 45, appeared in court Friday afternoon on a charge of reckless homicide. The judge gave Aydlette the bond and stipulated that if he were to pay it, he could not leave the state, must have no contact with the victim's family, and must wear an ankle monitor.

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced earlier in the day the new charge, saying Aydlette has a long history of traffic violations and should not have been driving in the state.

At the bond hearing, Jade Ricks, the trooper’s widow, pleaded with the court to deny bond and keep Aydlette behind bars.
