A Garfield Park man was charged Friday morning with two counts of attempted murder of two police officers following an attempted burglary in a freight train yard in Englewood, authorities said.

Barry Hayes, 32, was charged with two counts of attempt murder, two counts of criminal damage of government property between $500 to $10,000, and one count of aggravated battery to an officer. He also was charged with aggravated assault to an officer and one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing an injury, police said.

The many charges stem from a Wednesday morning incident in the 5800 block of South Shields Avenue when several people attempted to burglarize a freight-train yard in the Englewood neighborhood.
