A ride in the country on a Saturday morning in August was a nice way to start the weekend. Then, it got even better.
Master Gardener Linda Schreiber and I were driving to visit the Fields of Faith near Oxford, Iowa.
It was indeed an awesome sight.
Rows of tomatoes, heavy with fruit, corn ready to pick, potatoes yet to be dug, summer and winter squash on the vine and so much more is growing there.
That morning, volunteers had harvested an entire wagon load of vegetables to be taken to various churches and food banks for distribution.
Jeff Disterhoff developed the concept for this field. He was concerned that in Iowa the number of people living without proper nutrition was climbing every year.
