Residents gathered outside a Kyiv residential building on Friday to commemorate the 22 people who died there, including four children, according to the State Emergency Service, in Russia's latest drones and missiles attack on the Ukrainian capital.
"Today at 9:40 (local time), emergency search and rescue operations at this building were completed," said the State Emergency Service's head of communications, Svitlana Vodolaha.
37-year-old Iryna Drebizhova is living in this neighborhood. She came with her family to commemorate those who were killed in the attack.
"We heard sounds, explosions, rockets, Shaheds were flying all over Kyiv until three in the morning. We didn't have time to get up when there was a blow, a very strong blow, then another blow, and another blow, and another blow", said Drebizhova about her night.
European defense ministers pledged Friday to ramp up support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia, a day after a Russian air assault on Kyiv killed 23 people and badly damaged a European diplomatic compound.
Outrage over the attack propelled Europe’s leaders to condemn Russia even before Friday’s meeting and call for tougher measures on Moscow like seizing frozen assets, further sanctions and increasing support for Ukraine’s military and membership in the European Union.
