Social Security payments for September are starting to hit recipients' bank accounts, with the Labor Day holiday causing Supplemental Security Income checks to be sent out sooner than usual.

Social Security typically pays benefits on Wednesdays, with the first wave of payments going out on the second Wednesday of the month – Sept. 10.

Subsequent payments will go out on the third (Sept. 17) and fourth (Sept. 24) Wednesdays of the month, according to the Social Security Administration’s calendar .

Those who get Supplemental Security Income checks will receive their September check on Friday, Aug. 29, because Sept. 1 falls on Labor Day this year.
