An Atlantic City man who allegedly had his wife in a headlock on the beach before brandishing a knife at an off-duty police officer who intervened after participating in a charity race was released from jail until trial Friday.

Xontae Glass, 27, is charged with simple assault, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor granted Glass' release with the condition that he report to pretrial services twice a month.

Lt. James Herbert was participating in the Seedorf/McMeekin Memorial 5K Run on the Boardwalk about 10:10 a.m. Sunday when he noticed Glass assaulting a woman and pulling her toward the underside of the Boardwalk, police previously said.
