SAN ANTONIO — A man was shot and killed after San Antonio police said he pointed a shotgun at officers just east of downtown Friday morning.

Police Chief William McManus said officers were dispatched to a neighborhood in the 800 block of North Cherry Street where he says an altercation between three drivers, quickly took a deadly turn.

After the altercation, McManus said one of the drivers followed the others up North Cherry Street and got out of his vehicle to confront them. He then walked into his home to retrieve a shotgun and began firing rounds into the air, according to officials.

When officers arrived at the home, McManus said the suspect pointed the shotgun at the officers, prompting them to shoot and kill him in his backyard. The other drivers were taken in for questioning.
