CLEVELAND, Ohio – Republicans and Democrats don’t agree on much these days, but they have found common ground when it comes to restoring the health of the Cuyahoga River.
Local Congressional representatives from both political parties on Thursday praised plans to remove sediment from the river , a necessary step toward the eventual removal of the Gorge Dam between Akron and Cuyahoga Falls.
Republican Gov. Mike DeWine joined federal, state, and local leaders to launch the long-awaited cleanup of contaminated sediment behind the century-old dam.
Standing at Gorge Metro Park in Cuyahoga Falls, DeWine called the effort “a major step forward in restoring this river to its healthy, natural, free-flowing state, which is something that hasn’t happened in more than 100 years.”
