Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy is speaking out on what would've been his 32nd birthday.
The girlfriend of the One Direction star – who died in October – posted a tribute Friday, Aug. 29, on Instagram about the ex-"X Factor" sensation, addressing the note to "my dearest Liam."
"It breaks my heart being that I can't hand you a physical birthday card today. That I can't hear your laugh, or tell you all the things I wish I'd said a thousand more times," Cassidy wrote. "I've been struggling to find the right words, but I'll start with the most obvious, happy birthday."
She continued: "Today, you would have been 32. In your 31 years here on this earth you brought so much joy, happiness and hope to so many- especially to me. I hope you know how brightly you still shine, even from up there."
Casssidy wrote to her nearly 950,000 Instagram followers that she "would give up years of my life just to give you a few more," adding that "I miss making memories with you. I miss having things to look forward to together." The influencer and the "Strip That Down" singer went public with their relationship in 2022.
Cassidy posted a photo of the pair making their red carpet debut at the British Fashion Awards in December of that year, calling the night "amazing" in a caption as Payne looked her way with a smitten smile. The photos in the carousel included a solo shot of Payne jumping mid-air, Cassidy jumping into her boy band beau's arms in another snap, the couple at a donut shop and a selfie of the pair after seemingly playing in the snow.
The British boy band alum, who was one-fifth of the beloved group, died at 31 at a Buenos Aires, Argentina, hotel after he fell from a balcony in October. Cassidy broke her silence about Payne's death in an interview with The Sun in February.
"It was a tragic accident and no, I never did think (he might die young). But, you know, we did have our own separate lives — this wasn't the first time we have travelled separately," she told the British outlet. "I just never thought this would have happened, that it would turn out the way it did."
"It still doesn't feel fully real for me that he's not here," Cassidy continued in her Sun interview, adding that "from the moment I met Liam, I genuinely believed we were soulmates; he was the most humble, charming, normal person you could ever hope to come across, and genuinely one of the best people I've ever met in my life."
