TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man was charged after police say he sold a dose of fentanyl that killed another man in Tempe earlier this year.
Freddie Avila now faces charges for selling narcotic drugs and lethal fentanyl. Tempe Police say Avila admitted to selling drugs that killed Chris Joseph, 47, in March.
On March 15, Joseph was found unresponsive inside a vehicle at a car wash on Rio Salado Parkway at Tempe Marketplace. Joseph was pronounced dead from acute fentanyl poisoning, police said.
Through an investigation, detectives reviewed text messages and identified Avila as the suspect who sold the drugs. Tempe PD says the two men planned a drug deal at Tempe Marketplace the night before Joseph was found dead.
