NEWINGTON, Conn. — Bob’s Discount Furniture held a grand opening for its newest store on Friday morning, returning to Newington , the town where the company first got its start.

Company founder Robert Kaufman was joined by U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, staff members, and local residents to mark the occasion at 3174 Berlin Turnpike, the site of the brand-new store.

“We have been in Newington literally since the beginning, our first store was in Newington, the support we got from neighbors, surrounding towns, the town of Newington has allowed us to grow,” Kaufman said. “Without that first store being successful there wouldn't be no Bob's Discount Furniture.”

Kaufman began selling waterbeds in 1981, but when that market declined, he shifted gears. In 1991, he launched Bob’s Discount Furn
