Through its first eight days, the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand has had ups and downs.

Old Dominion sold out on opening night. Shows with Atmosphere and a co-bill featuring Melissa Etheridge and the Indigo Girls came close to capacity. Others have not come so close. That includes Thursday's concert with Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates fame.

Hall drew just 3,217 fans to the Grandstand on Thursday, far short of the more than 14,000 that came to see Old Dominion.

However, that's not entirely the performer's or the fair's fault. The Grandstand lineup originally featured a Thursday night performance from the Steve Miller Band. After being booked in March, the group canceled its entire tour in July due to concerns around climate change and extreme weather.
