A man accused of shooting two people in Waterbury has been captured following a coordinated effort between Connecticut and Pennsylvania law enforcement.
Xavier Bishop was arrested on Tuesday, Aug 26, in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, by US Marshals working with Waterbury Police’s Major Crimes Unit and Fugitive Task Force, as well as the Carbondale Police Department in Pennsylvania, officials announced Friday.
Bishop is facing multiple felony charges, including criminal use of a firearm, reckless endangerment, and assault in the first degree. Waterbury police said he also faces charges for carrying a pistol without a permit and the illegal sale of a firearm.
The charges stem from a violent incident on Willow Street in Waterbury on Aug. 16, where police responded to reports of gunfire. At about 3:58 a.m., officers found Alan Ross, 40, of Waterbury, with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital and is now in stable but critical condition, police said.
Minutes later, another victim, Everton Whyte, 28, of Waterbury, reported being shot in the ear. Responders took him to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
Waterbury Police officials said the arrest was made possible through a joint operation with federal and out-of-state partners. The department credited the Major Crimes Unit and Fugitive Task Force with leading the investigation.
Bishop is expected to be extradited to Connecticut.
