The body of a 40-year-old man was recovered after a BASE jump from the 6,127-foot summit of Mount Baring on Tuesday, according to the Snohomish County sheriff’s office.

Search and rescue crews responded at about 7 p.m. to reports of an unresponsive man. A companion, who had jumped from the summit shortly after the 40-year-old man, reported hearing a crash and seeing his open parachute near the 4,000-foot level but was unable to see the man, the sheriff’s office said in a Friday news release.

The man was found dead in a steep area of the north face of the mountain, located just northeast of the Skykomish River and Highway 2, after an extensive three-day search, the sheriff’s office said, requiring crews to rappel down steep rock terrain and coordinate efforts with Everett Mountain Rescue
