A 73-year-old woman died after falling from the popular Highline Trail in Glacier National Park on Wednesday, according to park officials.
The woman, identified in a Friday press release as Diane Bunker of Muscatine, Iowa, had been hiking with a large group of people on a section of the trail between Big Bend and Triple Arches when she tripped and fell off the edge of the trail.
The Highline Trail, accessible from Logan Pass, offers sweeping views of peaks and valleys on the park's west side. But sections of it hug the side of a nearly sheer cliff, with a hand cable present along a small stretch for hikers to hold onto.
