FLAT, Texas — Two Flat volunteer firefighters are on leave after charges were filed against them by the Coryell County Sheriff's Office, the Flat Volunteer Fire Department has announced.

According to Flat VFD, the two firefighters were placed on a leave of absence by Chief Tracy Gibson and Assistant Chief Kris Smith in response to the charges being filed.

The two firefighters are reportedly prohibited from accessing department property or participating in any department-related activities. The department did not share the nature of the charges.

Flat VFD said it will reevaluate the firefighters' standings once the county's investigation is complete and all legal proceedings have been resolved.
