Alan Leventhal, a former United States ambassador to Denmark, is considering running for governor of Massachusetts, marking another potential challenger to first-term Democrat Gov. Maura Healey, according to multiple sources who spoke to the Herald.
Two Republicans, Mike Kennealy and Brian Shortsleeve, have already jumped into the 2026 race for governor. A Democrat, criminal justice advocate Andrea James, has also filed paperwork to run for governor, and has started to raise and spend money, state records show.
But it is unclear if the 73-year-old Leventhal would run for governor as an independent or Democrat if he does commit to launching a campaign.
