WALTON, Ky. (WXIX) - The two Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputies shot late Thursday are improving, Major Phillip Ridgell said Friday.
The deputies, who have not been identified, were met with “heavy gunfire” when they went to the apartment of 39-year-old Justin Chapman to serve a felony warrant for overdue child support, the major said.
They arrived at Chapman’s home off Towne Creek Drive a little before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, and within 30 minutes, Chapman started shooting, according to Major Ridgell.
They began to run as shots were fired from inside the building, according to video shared with FOX19 NOW.
Both deputies were shot multiple times.
One deputy was shot in his chest and airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to Major Ridgell.
