MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — A body recovered from a metro pond Friday morning is believed to be connected to a recent missing persons case, according to a statement from Maple Grove police.

The police department said officers responded to the scene near 85th Avenue North and Valley Forge Lane North just after 6:30 a.m., after a worker nearby reported what looked like a body in the water. When they arrived, crews pulled the deceased person from the pond, located within a gravel mining pit.

MGPD said it believes the person could be connected with a recently reported missing person, and law enforcement has been in touch with that person's family.

Their name, along with manner and cause of death, are expected to be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner in the coming days.
