As news broke Friday morning that Canada’s economy was shrinking, perhaps headed for a recession, Mark Carney was boasting about the speed he was working at. Carney announced on social media that his government was creating the Major Projects Office and that it would be based out of Calgary.

This office is the single point of contact that Carney promised during the election to get major infrastructure projects moving.

“We are moving at a speed not seen in generations to build ports, railways, energy grids — the major projects that will unlock Canada’s full economic potential and build Canada strong,” Carney said.

If that were true, we would be talking about the projects the government would be backing, not the creation of a new bureaucracy.
