SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Major streets of Sioux Falls were underwater after a major storm hit the city in August of 2015.
Over seven inches of rain fell in just an hour's time on August 28. According to first responders that day, 60 calls for service an hour was the average. According to the NWS, in a ten-minute period, 0.91 inches of rain fell and 5.38 inches of rain accumulated in 2 hours.
Homeowners, tow trucks and law enforcement were busy for days after the flood touched many parts of the city on all sides. Major roads like 49th Street, Kiwanis, Louise Avenue and others were effectively underwater for some time. Stores flooded near the Empire Mall, including the Hyvee on Louise Avenue, which had three inches of water inside.
