SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) - A Sturgis man was sentenced Friday to 35 years in prison for shooting at a police officer and law enforcement center.

Fredrick Wilson, Jr., 20, had pleaded guilty to shooting at a Meade County Law Officer and the Meade County Law Enforcement Center in Sturgis in 2024, a news release from the South Dakota Attorney General's Office said.

Explosive components were found near the entry doors of the building, though they were never detonated. There were no injuries.

Wilson pleaded guilty but mentally ill to the charges in July.

He was sentenced to 30 years for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and 10 years, with five suspended, to a charge of discharge of a firearm at an occupied structure. The sentences will be served consecutively.
