SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Today, the Utah Supreme Court ruled on whether or not Ralph Menzies should be executed for the 1986 aggravated murder of Maurine Hunsaker.

According to a Utah Supreme Court decision on August 29, 2025, Ralph Menzies has advanced vascular dementia and is not competent to be executed. They argue that lower district courts must reevaluate his competency.

Ralph Menzies was initially scheduled to be executed on September 5, 2025. With this ruling, however, he will not be.
