PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A driver was taken to a hospital Thursday night after crashing into a woody ravine in Peoria.

The Peoria Fire Department was called around 7:40 p.m. to the 1700 block of West War Memorial Drive - originally not finding the crash because the vehicle was in a ravine within the woods.

The department noted the vehicle was unstable and balancing on an embankment 60 feet below the roadway with the driver still inside, having medical issues.

The vehicle was stabilized using cables and a winch to prevent the vehicle from falling further.

The driver was extricated from the woods using a stokes basket and rescue rope before being taken by AMT to a hospital for treatment.

Firefighters also assisted the tow truck company in securing and removing the vehicle from the ravi
