TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - A new scam making the rounds has some people scratching their heads.
Victims say they have unexpectedly received a free diamond or moissanite ring in the mail, claiming to be certified by the “Global Gemological Research Association.”
The Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office said the packages usually come with a QR code and ask you to scan it to “activate your warranty.”
However, scanning the code may give scammers access to your personal information.
The scam is one type of “brushing” scam that the USPS says are popping up all over the country.
