For the first time in the school's history, the Somerton Toros are set to embark on their varsity football journey, joining the ranks of the other seven football programs in Yuma County.

Head coach Cyril "Junior" Atherton has been tasked as the first head coach of the Toros, enrolling the athletes in a busy summer schedule full of 7-on-7 and linemen challenges to prepare the group for their first varsity snaps under the lights.

"We had a pretty decent summer with a good number of kids that came out," Atherton said. "Right after summer ball, we had good workouts and the rest of the kids came out. This is our first year with both a varsity and freshman/sophomore program, so both teams are working hard."
