TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Protesters gathered outside of U.S. Representative Laurel Lee's office on Friday demanding better treatment for Alligator Alcatraz detainees. One family claims their husband and father is being denied medical care at the facility.

Civic activist groups said they are concerned that detainees are not receiving proper medical attention. This comes at a time when the facility is under intense scrutiny over whether or not the detention center will be closed down for good.

"He went to work and never came back," Gianny Hunt, Co-founder of Magnified Voices said.

According to his family, Josue Galvez, a Tampa father and husband who was detained and taken to Alligator Alcatraz, is claiming to have been denied medical care at the facility during a COVID-19 outbreak.
