LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Friday was a big day for more than 100 Kentuckians, as they all took the oath of citizenship at the Muhammad Ali Center.
The naturalization ceremony was held as part of WorldFest, Louisville’s annual celebration of cultures. The applicants came from 29 countries.
“I came here when I was 7 years old with my parents from Cuba,” said Katherine Munoz, who participated in Friday's ceremony. “I just did it this year with my husband.”
Danilo Giron took the oath of allegiance and immediately headed to the voter registration table.
"All these other people, they're trying to do whatever it takes to be here," Giron said.
He began the citizenship process more than four years ago and said voting is a privilege he isn’t taking lightly.
