LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
104 people became new citizens in Louisville on Friday.
They took their oath of allegiance at the Muhammad Ali Center, surrounded by the legacy of a man who fought for identity and equality, making the ceremony all the more symbolic.
This happens every year at WorldFest's Naturalization Ceremony.
As the new American citizens received their certificates, one by one, what carried through the room wasn’t just paperwork, but a promise.
"I feel like it's a new beginning," said Erick Wolford.
Erick Wolford is from Venezuela. He's been waiting 20 years for this day.
"Before, I had this anxiety and so many things. So, having that peace and security just makes me feel just like I had the weight lifted off my shoulders," said Wolford.
