On Thursday, August 28, Texas Department of Public Safety K-9 Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a blue GMC pickup traveling eastbound on IH-20 near mile marker 93 for a window tint violation. After observing criminal indicators, a search of the pickup was conducted by the DPS K-9 team, a news release said.

The search revealed six kilograms of cocaine hidden in the vehicle. The suspect was identified as Fernando Madrid Mendoza, 26, of Odessa, and was charged with 1st degree felony manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance over 400 grams. The subject was booked into the Ector County Detention Center, and his bond was set at $75,000, the release said.
