NEWPORT, Wash. — Pend Oreille County Jail deputies found a 61-year-old inmate unresponsive and not breathing on Thursday, August 28.

Despite efforts by corrections officers and medical staff, the man was pronounced dead.

The City of Newport Police Department says the Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death. This investigation is ongoing.
