MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- WDIA, America's first all-Black radio station, has been a cornerstone of the Memphis community and is still going strong after more than 75 years on the air.
The station has been a trusted source of information and entertainment, with Bev Johnson hosting her popular show for 42 of those years. Her program features expert guests, including local doctors, lawyers, and community leaders, offering critical information to listeners.
"We were giving them the information that they couldn't get anywhere else," said Bev Johnson, highlighting the station's role in the community.
WDIA played a significant role in preserving the Lorraine Motel, now the National Civil Rights Museum, by raising funds to save it from auction. This effort underscores the station's commitment to the co
