VINE GROVE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Kentucky State Fire Marshall’s Office has confirmed that the fire that destroyed a fire station in Vine Grove in Hardin County was caused by a lightning strike.
Matthew Haddle, fire chief for the Vine Grove Fire Department, said a thousand thoughts were running through his head when he found out one of his stations was on fire on August 20.
Chief Haddle said the fire station, located along North Mill Street, was a total loss with mostly rubble standing in its place now. The department also lost three fire trucks, one of them being a 1941 Howe vintage firetruck.
“That’s a history to the city,” he pointed out. “The guys at the fire department, Mr. Peters, put many years into restoring it to make it for parades, funerals, we used it for that. I knew it was some
