KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - While Hurricane Katrina may not have affected East Tennessee, that did not stop the volunteer state from offering a hand.
“Just through watching what had been going on through TV, this gave us a way to be able to actively do something,” Stephanie Carter, the Senior Vice President of Operations for the McNabb Center said.
Organizations like the McNabb Center worked with those evacuated to the Civic Coliseum in Knoxville.
“When we started working with the people evacuating from Katrina, we found that they had all been through tremendous stress trauma, and they had just been on a plane and moved many of them to a city they had never been to before,” Carter said.
