If you're in the Joplin area, you don't have to go far — or anywhere, for that matter — to find two of the best long-distance girl runners in Missouri.

Ava Doll of Joplin and Brooke Hedger of Webb City finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at the Class 5 state championship last year in cross-country. Doll finished with a time of 18:17.7, while Hedger was about 2.5 seconds behind at 18:20.2. The two are returning this year with hopes to improve on those finishes their senior year. ×
