Parts of B.C. saw some thunderstorms on Friday, which is causing the BC Wildfire Service to ask people to be cautious to prevent any human-caused wildfires.
BCWS says much of the province experienced a dry and hot stretch this week, which has then ended with dry thunderstorms in the Coastal and Interior regions.
The southern half of B.C., including Vancouver Island, can expect more lightning strikes, BCWS says.
“As we head into the long weekend, please recreate responsibly and with caution, helping us keep resources focused on any new lightning-caused wildfires,” BCWS says in a Facebook post.
So far this year, just over half of all wildfires in 2025 have been caused by lightning.
