Mora County and Ruidoso are preparing for potential flooding as heavy rains are expected over Labor Day weekend, with emergency teams on high alert.

Zant Zamora, a firefighter in Mora County, emphasized the unpredictability of conditions.

"You don't know if there's another surge coming through. It's hard to tell conditions, especially at night," Zamora said.

Mora County Commissioner George Trujillo highlighted the poor condition of roads in Mora County.

"Our roads are in bad shape. You can't get a vehicle on there," Trujillo said.

He added that about 90 percent of roads have been damaged or affected by recent flooding.

Ruidoso Mayor Lynn Crawford expressed heightened concern for the weekend.

"The level of concern is higher than usual, I'll be honest with you," Crawford said.
