CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- "Every year you always look forward to college football coming back, and it's finally here," said App State alumnus Evan Girodano.

The App State Mountaineers and the Charlotte 49ers are just one of 11 college football games kicking off Friday evening.

Fans in yellow and black and green and white enjoyed some mayonnaise-filled activities during fan fest before the game.

"I like college football because you get to tailgate and drink," said another App State alumnus, Hunter Norris.

This is the first time since 2022 the two teams will play each other -- and they'll be on each other's schedules until 2030.
