Illinois State University announced changes to its tailgating rules ahead of the start of the upcoming football season.

Tailgating will now end at kickoff of the game, instead of 90 minutes after the game like before.

Plus, tailgating will open only 5 hours before kickoff. Previously, tailgating was allowed for 12 hours.

These changes align with other universities in their conference, ISU police said in a post to Facebook .

ISU police said the changes will also reduce strain on campus and community first responders and resources and lead to a "safer game day for all, including fewer alcohol-related incidents."
