Blue Zones Project Palm Springs will host its first “Food-a-Thon” next month during National Food Bank day to support the LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert’s food bank.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 5 at the center, 2901 E. Alejo Road.

The food drive aims to gather about 2,500 pounds of food to help more than 350 individuals the center serves daily, organizers said.

Donations of shelf-stable items such as pasta, energy bars, peanut butter, nuts, oatmeal, cereal, beans and rice will be accepted.
