On Thursday, Mesa County Judge Jennilynn Lawrence dismissed a lawsuit against former Mesa County Deputy Alexander Zwinck without prejudice.

The lawsuit, filed by Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, accused Zwinck of violating a Colorado law (Senate Bill 25-276) that prohibits local law enforcement from sharing certain information with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

Specifically, the lawsuit claimed that Zwinck violated the law by providing information to ICE officials in a Signal group chat, which led to the arrest of Caroline Dias Goncalves in June.

The 19-year-old Dias Goncalves has lived in Utah since she was 7, after immigrating from Brazil and receiving Dreamer (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) status. She was arrested shortly after Zwinck pulled her over in t
