LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers yet one that often goes undiagnosed for many years.
7NEWS spoke to physicians at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital where they’re doing what they can to encourage women to get checked for cervical cancer.
“If we’re able to catch that early,” said LCMH first year resident Stacy Mitchell. “And so, if we’re checking every three to five years as recommended, we’re usually able to have really good results.”
Spreading awareness and educating women in Southwest Louisiana is the primary focus for doctors at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. That’s why they hosted a free cervical cancer and HPV screening for women aged 21 to 65.
