There are 50 colleges and universities in the United States that have the tiger as their mascot, but while their tens of thousands of fans are cheering for the tigers during athletic competitions, their mascots are disappearing in the wild. There are fewer than 6,000 tigers across 13 countries in Asia.

Clemson University is leading the conservation effort to save these beautiful beasts, founding the Tigers United Consortium with other tiger mascot land grant universities, which have tiger mascots: University of Missouri, Auburn University and Louisiana State University.
