The Joplin Eagles defense looked to be in mid-season form and the Joplin offense turned in an impressive performance in a 31-7 win in its season opener against Kickapoo Friday night at Junge Field.

It was clear from the opening kick that the Eagles defense came to play. After the first two Kickapoo plays resulted in lost yardage, Joplin's Gabe Kabutha intercepted a pass by Kickapoo quarterback Brock Brooks on a third and 19 and returned it to the Chiefs 37-yard line at the 10:26 mark of the first quarter. ×
