PHOENIX — A West Valley high schooler has been in the hospital for nearly a month after collapsing while walking home from school in the heat and suffering third-degree burns all over her body.
June Shaver likely had a seizure due to heat stroke on the two-mile walk in 110-degree heat , her grandfather, Larry Shaver, said.
“(She) didn't realize she was in trouble, and she kept going," Larry Shaver said.
He said June Shaver had water and was prepared for the walk. Still, she suffered third-degree burns from the pavement, which could have been up to 180 degrees at the time she collapsed, Larry Shaver said. A person saw June Shaver on the ground and called 911.
