Friday night’s season opener between Thompson Valley and Berthoud at Ray Patterson Stadium had its share of cramps, penalties and turnovers.

Clinging to a three-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, the Class 3A defending state champion Eagles’ Triston Hill scored his second touchdown of the night and Thompson Valley went on to win its 15th straight game, 17-7, over the Spartans in the season opener for both teams.

The Eagles overcame multiple play stoppages for cramps and more than 100 yards of penalties to begin their quest for a championship repeat with a victory.
